MATH

The district’s MATHEMATICS program is CMP-MATHEMATICS INVESTIGATIONS along with Scott Foresman-Addison Wesley. CMP meets the needs of students through in-class investigations of math problem solving and skills applications involving the use of manipulatives. Topics “uncovered” by students this year include number sense and operations (factors, multiples, fractions, decimals, percents), geometry, measurement, patterns, relations and algebra, data analysis, statistics, and probability. The textbook will be used to support, introduce, and practice concepts that will be applied to real life situations with CMP. Sixth grade students are expected to have mastered the number facts in all four operations. Continuing practice at home will be necessary. Sixth graders will take a math MCAS test in the spring. Students are expected to work cooperatively with a partner frequently in math. Daily math problems help keep all of our work from previous units throughout the year fresh to ensure success on the MCAS we will take in May. Involving math whenever we bump into it in all areas of the curriculum is always an adventure!
